JOHN DAVID KROGMANN was born on February 2, 1927 to Heinrich “HC” and Clara (Lagemann) Krogmann on the family farm in Mound Township, Rock County, Minnesota. He attended District 50 country school and graduated from Luverne High School in 1945. John began farming in 1948 following his marriage to Imogene Lemke on August 29, 1948. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Penny was born in 1949, and Tammy in 1957. He lived and farmed on two separate Krogmann quarters in Mound Township. In 1992 they moved to Luverne, but he continued to help farmers plant and harvest. He drove a school bus for five years as well.
John was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota where he was baptized on April 3, 1927, and confirmed on July 4, 1943. John was rarely not busy with some sort of project or group, he was one of the original members of the Blue Mounds Climbers 4-H Club; sold Walnut Grove Feed; served as a swine leader while his daughters were in 4-H; was the Mound Township clerk for a time. He and his other neighbors also started the Rock County Pork Producers. John collected toy tractors and had one of each of the tractors that he had owned during his farming career. He was involved in the Blue Mound Wood Carvers and worked as diligently on his wood projects as he had farming. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson, boat and Segway. His idea that he, his son-in-law, and grandson go fishing in Canada continued for years; later, his granddaughter’s husband joined this group. He used a "Cadillac" of fishing rod. He was a devoted farmer throughout his life and was seen driving very slowly, noting how crops were growing. Most of all, John loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them.
John passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 14 days.
