Jordan Reed Kent was born April 21, 1988, to Timothy and Julie (Kemmer) Kent in Fargo, North Dakota. Jordan started his life in Moorhead, Minnesota, then moved to Marshall, Minnesota with his parents and twin brother. The Kent family decided to make Minnesota their home and moved to Tyler. They became members of Danebod Lutheran Church, where Jordan was baptized on November 24, 1996, and confirmed on May 4, 2003. Growing up, he was a sports fanatic to the fullest. He loved playing with his younger cousins and his friends; he was always good with children. Jordan graduated from RTR High School in 2006. Following graduation, Jordan moved to Brookings, South Dakota where he attended college at South Dakota State University. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 2010. After his time in Brookings, Jordan tested out Omaha, Nebraska and Sioux Falls, South Dakota multiple times before deciding he enjoyed Sioux Falls the most. He bought a home and settled in for the long haul.
Jordan wanted to serve his country from a young age. His Uncle Keith and Aunt Teri inspired him. Jordan joined the South Dakota Army National Guard on January 15, 2009, and had been ranked Sergeant. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Jordan was very patriotic and loved his country. Jordan served his guard unit and worked as a general manager at Anytime Fitness in Sioux Falls. He recently signed up for Church League Softball and was loosening up his new mit. Jordan was passionate about staying fit throughout his life: eating healthy, playing football and disc golf. He was a devoted fan of the Vikings, Twins, and Jackrabbits. He loved his dog, Staley. Jordan could not get enough of his niece, Aubrey. She made him an uncle and she was a treasure to him. He then was blessed with a nephew and Godson, Mason, which he loved fiercely.
Jordan passed away suddenly February 19, 2021, at his home in Sioux Falls at the age of 32 years, nine months, and 29 days. Above all, he will be remembered for his desire to serve his country, being a great son, uncle, brother, and friend to many.
Jordan is survived by his parents, Timothy and Julie of Tyler; twin brother, Joshua (Alicia) Kent of Ivins, Utah; little brother, Michael (Claressa) Kent of Pipestone, Minnesota; honorary sister, Danielle (William) Herrick of Stillwater, Minnesota; honorary brother, Nathan Jensen of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; niece, Aubrey Kent of Ivins; nephew and Godson, Mason Kent of Pipestone; and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Harold “Hal” (Mary Virgina “Ginny”) Kemmer and Isabel “Izzy” Kent.
