JOSEPH J. WIPF was born on September 21, 1940 to Joseph and Maria Wipf at Bon Homme Colony near Yankton, South Dakota. On June 3, 1962, he married Katrina Wipf at Plainview Colony in Ipswich, South Dakota. God blessed their marriage with eight children. After Katrina's death, Joseph married Leah Wipf of Rolland Colony in White, South Dakota on November 16, 1986 at Plainview Colony in Ipswich, South Dakota. Joseph and Leah were blessed with over 24 years together. They moved to Heartland Colony in Lake Benton in 1991. On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, Joseph died at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 70 years, six months and 14 days.
Joseph enjoyed working with heavy equipment. He was a farm manager at the Plainview Colony and later became a pastor, ministering for many years. Joseph also liked welding, reading and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved company and making friends, and he also had many friends.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his life are his wife, Leah; four sons, Joey and his wife Helen Wipf of Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota, Alvin and his wife Pauline Wipf of Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota, Mark and his wife Marian Wipf of Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota, Jerry and his wife Marlene Wipf of Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota; four daughters, Kathy and her husband David Waldner of Millbrook Colony near Mitchell, South Dakota, Linda and her husband Bob Hofer of Lakeview Colony in Lake Andes, South Dakota, Mary Wipf of Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota, and Dalia and her husband Ted Wipf of Rolland Colony in White, South Dakota; 38 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven brothers; five sisters; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katrina; his parents, Joseph and Maria Wipf; one brother, Samuel; one sister, MaryAnn.
