JOSEPH 'JOE' FLANNERY was born on September 1, 1920 in Gray Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota to Patrick and Margaret (Wingle) Flannery. He attended country school near Woodstock, Minnesota and then High School in Pipestone, graduating in 1939. He farmed the family farm for many years until he sold it in 1995. At that time he bought a home in Woodstock but ended up moving in with his brother, Cecil, who also lived in Woodstock. Even after Cecil passed away in 1999, Joe continued to live there. While living in the Woodstock area, Joe worked hauling eggs and spent 40+ years working as a bartender. In 2014, Joe fell and had some surgeries and entered into the nursing home in Slayton, Minnesota. After a time, he went down to Luverne, Minnesota and lived in the Mary Jane Brown Home. In 2015, he went into Falls Landing in Pipestone until February of 2017 when he moved into the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. On Sunday, October 29, 2017, he passed away peacefully at Good Sam at the age of 97 years, one month, and 28 days.
Joe was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. He enjoyed gardening with his brother. Joe could usually be found driving around Woodstock in his pickup truck waving and visiting with people. He always liked going to Lange’s Caf or McDonald’s for coffee in Pipestone.
Joe is lovingly remembered by all the friends who he knew through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Cecil.
