JOYCE MABEL MEINDERS was born on October 30, 1945 to Lester and Mabel (Geary) Gilbert in Pipestone, Minnesota. Joyce was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota. During high school, Joyce worked at the AW as a carhop in Pipestone. She attended school in Verdi, Minnesota, graduating in 1963. Joyce attended college at the Pillsbury Baptist College for a semester before deciding on a different path in her life. Joyce then worked at the Niccolet Press Printing for many years. She was married on April 30, 1966 to Richard Meinders. The couple was blessed with their daughter, Tamara. Joyce then worked for Hardees and then for the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She also worked many years at the Performing Arts Center and helped at many Al Opland performances. Joyce retired, but continued to clean for many residents of Pipestone and many businesses, she needed to stay busy. She died peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2020 in the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 74 years and five months.
She was a member of Christ the King Free Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She enjoyed coffee at Lange’s, shopping for clothes, and absolutely loved helping people.
Joyce is remembered by, Richard of Pipestone; her daughter Tamara “Tami” (William) Vanderplaats of Pipestone; two grandchildren, Cassandra (Jed) Woitaszewski and Logan Vanderplaats; two great-granddaughters, Ella and Adlee Woitaszewski; her siblings, Duane (Barbara) Gilbert of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Grace Ann Goodman of Midwest City, Oklahoma, LeRoy (Darlene) Gilbert of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Carolyn (Neil) Miller of St. Peter, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; her friend Kenny Skorr; and all of her special friends at Lange’s. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Lester; and her brother-in-law, David Goodman.
