Julia Camilla Labat was born March 25, 1922 to Camiel and Marie (Lamote) Thooft on the family farm in Lincoln County, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent, Minnesota. She attended country school through grade eight. On April 12, 1952 Julia married Peter Jacob Labat in Ghent. Their union was blessed with five children and 39 years of life together. The couple farmed and raised their family in Coon Creek Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. They retired from farming in 1981. Peter died in 1991 and Julia moved to Tyler, Minnesota. In April 2007 she became a resident of Minneota Manor in Minneota, Minnesota. There, on Thursday, January 17, 2013 Julia died at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 23 days.
Julia was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, gardening, fishing, and time spent with her family.
Julia is lovingly remembered by her children, James Labat of Russell, Minnesota, Louise Labat of Tyler, Minnesota, Lorraine (Steven) Emde of Correll, Minnesota, Linda (Mark) Nelson of Willmar, Minnesota, and Jerry (Bonita) Labat of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Craig, and Nicole Emde, Bryan and Cory Nelson, and Caroline and Rene Labat; brothers, Leon and Ernest Thooft, both of Tyler; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her parents; and two brothers, Andrew Thooft, and an infant brother.
