KATHRYN “KATHY” ANN LINGEN was born to Jerome and Lelyth “Cutz” (McDonald) Thaler on May 29, 1960 in Slayton, Minnesota. She was raised in Hadley, Minnesota and then on the family farm south of Hadley in Leeds Township, Murray County, Minnesota. She attended school in Slayton, Minnesota, graduating from Slayton High School in 1978. Upon completion of her education, she worked for Finley Engineering. On October 24, 1980, she was united in marriage to Michael Lingen at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota with a great wedding reception at the Lingen farm afterwards. Following their marriage, they lived in Holland, Minnesota before moving to their current residence in Woodstock in 1982. During this time, she was a daycare provider and a 'mother to many' through this. She was also a Woodstock First Responder for many years. In January, 2017, Kathy was diagnosed with colon cancer. On Friday, May 26, 2017, she entered the Pipestone County Hospice House where she died on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the age of 57 years and two days.
Kathy was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. She loved being outside; she mowed the grass with perfectly straight lines, gardening, and sitting on the patio. She enjoyed a few random casino trips to plunk in a few coins (she always bet the max). She had a wonderful sense of humor, and occasionally had to be reminded to use her “inside laugh'. She liked planning to make a plan, but was also very laid back and easy going. Taking care of her family was her #1 priority. Babysitting her grandson Jaxon, whom she dearly loved, and family get-togethers, especially with her beloved nieces and nephews, were some of her greatest joys.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Mike Lingen of Woodstock, Minnesota; her daughter, Jessica (Cory) Schoep of Edgerton, Minnesota; one grandson, Jaxon Schoep; five siblings, Rhonda (Steve) Wynia and Pam (Darwin) Johnson, both of Slayton, Minnesota, Mary Jo (Alan) Lingen of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Robert (Connie) Thaler of Foley, Minnesota and Tom Thaler of South Naknek, Alaska; and her step-mother, Alice Beattie-Thaler of Slayton. She was preceded in death by her parents; and father- and mother-in-law, John and Gladys Lingen.
