KERMIT ARTHUR SKORR was born on March 22, 1941 to Alf and Margaret (Birkeland) Skorr in Luverne, Minnesota. He attended country school south of Jasper, Minnesota and Jasper High School, graduating in 1959. After completing his education, he moved to South Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked for Thermo King for a number of years. While there he met Shirley Nelson and the two were united in marriage on July 3, 1965 at Richfield Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In 1965, the family moved to a farm east of Garretson, South Dakota. In 1968, they moved to a farm near Ihlen, Minnesota and Kermit worked for Tri-State Silo. It was there that he realized his love to sell. In 1973, they moved into Jasper and have resided there until this very day. In 1981, Kermit started his own seed selling business, Skorr Sales. In 2004, he started selling chemicals as well and continued until the end of his life. For the last year, Kermit battled cancer but continued to work and enjoy life. On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, he passed away peacefully at the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone, Minnesota at the age of 75 years, five months, and nine days.
Kermit was a lifelong member of Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper and was baptized and confirmed there. He loved to build things, do carpentry work, and make decals and signs. Throughout the years Kermit went to many sporting events, both his children and grandchildren’s. He loved joking around and storytelling with the grandchildren. Kermit could often be found at the Caf playing cards and drinking coffee. In years past he and Shirley loved going dancing together. Kermit was a perfectionist, and a proud Norwegian; he was also a passionate, optimistic, and forgiving person.
Kermit is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Shirley, of Jasper; his children, Greg (Ronda) Skorr of Luverne, Angie (Jim) Lerdal of Brookings, South Dakota, Pam (Mike) Rice of Brookings, and Andrew (Mandy) Skorr of Appleton, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren, Tyler Lau, Zachary (Jamilee) Lau, Michael (fianc, Haley) Lau, Jordan Lerdal, Christopher Lerdal, Jackson Skorr, Arthur Skorr, Avery Skorr, Lacey (special friend, Craigg) Skorr, Emilie Gehrke, Katelyn Skorr, and Brianna Skorr; one great-granddaughter, Lorann Skorr; three brothers, Arlen (Kay) Skorr, Merlyn (Geneva) Skorr, and Kenny Skorr; two sisters, Carol Ann Skorr, and Shirley (Mark) Piepho; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
