Laura Ann Welch was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 21, 1937 to Garrett and Ellen (Holm) Welch. She was educated at Loretto Academy in Chicago, and graduated in 1955. She worked for the American Bar Association until she moved to Tyler in 1972 to be with her mother. She was employed in Tyler for the City Administrator and the Public Library. On June 14th, 2011 Laura was admitted to Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls following a heart attack and stroke. She entered Sunrise Manor on Tuesday June 28th, 2011. She died there on July 24, 2011 at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 3 days.
Laura was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church where she served on the council and other committees numerous times. She was a member of Book Club, Danebod Folk School Board, Hope Afternoon Club, and Danebod WELCA. She was a gifted storyteller, a strong Tyler supporter, and a big Twins fan (Cubs fan, too). She enjoyed her cats, flowers, and was a woman of strong opinions and convictions, and will be missed by many.
Laura is survived by her uncle, Hugo (Mary) Holm of Bremen, Indiana; aunt, Sigrund (Tom) Garner of Towson, Maryland; a host of cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellen and Garrett; and brother, Garrett Jr.
