Laura Nelson

Laura Faye Nelson was born to Lawrence Raymond and Dorthy May (Moore) Bingham on December 2, 1950 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.  She was raised in Slayton, Minnesota where she received her education.    In her early adulthood, she lived in Lake Wilson, Minnesota with her two children, Ginger and Ed.  After the Chandler/Lake Wilson tornado, Laura and her son, Ed bought a house in Woodstock, Minnesota.  On April 11, 2023, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she died on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the age of 72 years,

Laura was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  Her favorite things to do were fishing with her family, sewing/needlepoint and woodworking.  She had an amazing love of gardening and planting flowers with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed collecting tea pots and Indian decorations for her house. She loved sharing Disney movies with her grandchildren.  Laura will be remembered by her children and grandchildren, best friend and sister, Leona by her iconic voice and laugh.  She had such a down to earth personality and found a positive in every negative situation.  We will all miss our frequent phone calls and visits which all started with “Hey kid!” no matter who you were.  Her grandchildren are looking forward to carrying on the traditions of tea parties, teenage idiot suppers and malt nights that they all shared with their grandma.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ginger (Dan) Manderscheid of Lake Wilson and Ed (Marlys) Nelson of Adrian, Minnesota; grandchildren, Alicia Backlund, Casey (Reilly) McCabe, Lexy (Dalton Kor) Manderscheid, Courtney Manderscheid, Tristan Nelson, Khailee Nelson, Devin Terry and Carrie Lynn;  great-grandchildren,  Dominic Terry, Khora Terry, Charlotte McCabe, Kinley McCabe and Chloe Nelson;  three siblings, Linda (Marv) Slinger of Jasper, Minnesota, Lonnie Bingham of Hatfield, Minnesota and Leona Gruis of Woodstock, Minnesota.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy and her brother, Larry Bingham.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home - Pipestone Chapel.  In accordance with Laura's wishes, no funeral service will be held.
