Laureen K. Fick

Laureen Kae Fick was born on November 4, 1952, to Raymond and Leona (Stubbe) Skillman in George, Iowa. She was raised here and attended school. Following her education, she moved with her family to Garretson, South Dakota and lived on an acreage. At this time, she worked for a local hatchery. Laureen then met Norbert Fick and in 1974 the couple was married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Their marriage was blessed with three boys, Shawn, Daniel and Norbert, Jr. After living in various towns, the family settled in a home in rural Luverne, Minnesota. She enjoyed raising her boys on the acreage and also raised rabbits. They attended numerous competitions to show the animals and took home several trophies. In addition to being a homemaker, Laureen held several jobs through the years. Of her jobs she held, the main ones were working on the line at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington, as a CNA at Palisade Nursing Home in Garretson, and as a cafeteria cook at Hills-Beaver Creek Elementary in Beaver Creek. She eventually retired from work and in 2003, she and Norbert moved into Luverne. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, while surrounded by her family at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Laureen went to be with her Lord at the age of 71 years, nine months, and 18 days.

Laureen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne. She had a big heart and was very passionate, so much it could be confused with stubbornness. She enjoyed her cats and dogs that were a part of her family, especially her Chinese pugs. She also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen and was a wonderful baker. Laureen loved being with her family and held an affinity for her red-headed grandchildren. She will be missed.

Laureen is lovingly survived by her husband, Norbert; three boys, Shawn (Shelley) Fick of Vermillion, South Dakota, Daniel (Ellen) Fick of Hills, Minnesota, and Norbert, Jr. (Katie) Fick of Northfield, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Greg (Jenica) Styles, Nathan Fick, Hannah (Orville) Swenson, and Sylvia Fick; a great-granddaughter, Henley Styles; a sister, Judy Meester of Sioux Falls; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Earleen Hinrichs; and two brothers-in-law, Ron Hinrichs and Gary Meester.
