LAVERN “VERNIE” ALFRED HANSON was born July 7, 1926 on the family farm near Lamberton, Minnesota, the son of Selmer and Edith (Schmidt) Hanson. He received his education by attending a rural country school. He worked with his father and brother, Lester, on farms near Walnut Grove, Lamberton, and Arco, Minnesota. Lester and Lavern were in partnership together for many years. Late winter 2016 Vernie moved to 4th Avenue Homes in Spicer, Minnesota. He was admitted to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota and peacefully passed away there on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the age of 91.
Vernie was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township. He enjoyed working with his horses, and taking care of his dogs and cats. Vernie was a huge Twins fan. He liked fishing, gardening, harvesting apples, and he looked forward to fall hunting when the relatives came and stayed.
Vernie is survived by a sister, Dorothy Kay of California; and many nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and friends, Leland, Sheldon, and Arnold. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Fred, Gertrude, Edna, Earl, Harold, Martin, Lester, and Shirley; three nieces, Carol, Sandy, and Robyn; and four nephews, Gordon, David, Ronald, and Dwayne.
Thank you Kristy and staff at 4th Avenue Homes for all of the loving care you gave Vernie.
