Leah Wipf

LEAH WIPF was born to Samuel and Susanna (Tschetter) Wipf on October 2, 1944 in Olivet, South Dakota. At the age of four, she moved with her family to the Graceville Colony in Winfred, South Dakota where she was raised and received her education. In 1978, she moved to the Rolland Colony in White, South Dakota. Following Joseph Wipf’s wife’s death, he met Leah Wipf and they were united in marriage on November 16, 1986 at the Plainview Colony in Ipswich, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they resided there until moving to the Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota in 1991. Joseph preceded her in death on April 5, 2011, after the two of them had been blessed with over 24 years together. On Sunday, June 2, 2013, Leah died at the Heartland Colony surrounded by her loving family. She died at the age of 68 years and six months.
At the time Joseph and Leah were married, Joseph’s children were grateful to Leah for taking them under her wing and she was a mother to all of them. She stole their hearts and made them truly love her. They were grateful for how she taught them to love the Lord and they each give thanks to Leah for all the things that she had done for them.

Leah was a real people person. She liked sewing, singing and going on nature walks, but her biggest enjoyment was gardening. The picture on the front of her funeral folder is an example of her work in the garden.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Joseph and his wife Helen Wipf, Alvin and his wife Pauline Wipf and Marcus and his wife Marian Wipf, all of the Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota, Kathy and her husband Waldner of the Millbrook Colony in Mitchell, South Dakota, Linda and her husband Bob Hofer of Lakeview Colony in Lake Andes, South Dakota, Marion Wipf and Jerry and his wife Marlene Wipf of the Heartland Colony in Lake Benton, Minnesota, and Dalia and her husband Ted of Rolland Colony in White, South Dakota; 39 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers and five sisters, Samuel and his wife Alma Wipf of Rolland Colony in White, South Dakota, Maria and her husband Joseph Wipf of Rockport Colony in Alexandria, South Dakota, Susanna and her husband Johnny Waldner of Riverside Colony in Huron, South Dakota, Judith Wipf of Rolland Colony in White, South Dakota, Michael and his wife Racheal Wipf of Quinby, Iowa, Betty and her husband Sammy Waldner of Upton, New York, Esther and her husband Ernie Tschetter of Emery, South Dakota, and David and his wife Lori Wipf of Woodstock, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wipf and her parents.
