Leeann Mckinney

LEEANN MCKINNEY...

was born on February 28, 1955 to Lee and Lorraine (Smidt) Scheerhoorn at the Pipestone Community Hospital in Minnesota. She was reared in the Pipestone community where she attended grade school and high school and was a member of the Pipestone High School class of 1973. LeeAnn later attended Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York.

LeeAnn was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Trosky, Minnesota on March 20, 1955 and was confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone on March 20, 1970. On June 4, 1983, LeeAnn married Dan McKinney in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. This union was blessed by the birth of their son, Jesse, on June 7, 1989 in Rochester, New York.

The McKinney’s moved to Stewartville, Minnesota in 1997 where LeeAnn worked for several years for the Stewartville Area Schools. She later did volunteer work in hospice care. LeeAnn enjoyed camping with her family, motorcycling with her husband, Dan, playing cards with her friends, and reading. Most of all, LeeAnn was devoted to her son, Jesse. LeeAnn died at the St. Mary’s Hospital Campus of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the age of 61 years, two months, and 16 days.

LeeAnn is survived by her husband of thirty-three years, Dan McKinney of Stewartville; her son, Jesse McKinney of Rochester, Minnesota; her mother, Lorraine Scheerhoorn of Pipestone; her sister, Brenda Scheerhoorn (and her friend Doug) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her uncles, Wallace (Jeanette) Smidt and Edward (Gloria) Smidt of Pipestone; and one aunt, Dorothy (Ted) Kueker of Rochester; and several cousins of the Pipestone area. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Scheerhoorn and her grandparents.
