Leona Elizabeth Huebner was born on January 23, 1933, to Leon H. and Stella M. (Harrison) Ludolph on the family farm southeast of the fairgrounds in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. Her family lived on 8th Avenue NW in Pipestone near where the Ludolph Bus Service is today. As a 15-year-old girl, her father sent her to the Pipestone County Courthouse and told her to lie about her age on her license so she could drive herself to school. She met her sweetheart, Lyle and he brought her a puppy (a Boston Terrier tucked in his pocket) for Valentine's Day. The two were united in marriage on July 28, 1950, at the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. After their marriage the couple lived above the Bank on Main Street in Pipestone. When Gloria was born, the family moved to 2nd Avenue SW. Lyle farmed the original Huebner Farm for seven years before moving to the Chris Rock farm and rented there for two years. The family then moved to the Lee and Marie Fryer Farm in Cazenovia, Minnesota area in 1959 and then moved with four children to the Floyd Willey farm and purchased it in 1963. They farmed until 1976 when they moved into town.
Leona held many positions at the Good Samaritan Society, retiring in 2007. She loved to spend time and build connections with the residents there, it truly was her calling. Throughout her working years she worked as a nurse's aide, bus driver, and helped with other activities. She remained in her home in Pipestone until recently when she entered the care of the Pipestone County Hospice House. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the age of 92.
Leona was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. She has been a Deacon and a member of the choir. She loved to crochet and paint oil paintings. She also enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Leona loved playing her Gameboy. She played so many hours that each Gameboy would die and she would search and find a new one to continue her games; she became a real expert! Leona was quick with a smile. She enjoyed playing board games and cards as well. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandkids; they brought a special kind of joy to her life. Leona also liked to travel and visit new places when able.
Leona is lovingly remembered by her children, Gloria (Steve) Teske of Bellingham, Washington, Jeff (NanRae) Huebner of Pipestone, Tom (Joan) Huebner of Trent, South Dakota, and Julie (Corey) Popma of Pipestone; grandchildren, Katie, Joey, Natalie, Robert, Jacque, Josh, Tommy, Amanda, Taylor, Megan, and Carlee; 17 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Carrie, June, Savannah, Landon, Tate, Harper, Austin, Eric, Julian, Kaden, Nicole, Lucas, Ty, Cortney, Brianna, and Chance. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents, Leon and Stella; great-granddaughter, Samantha; and siblings, Nancy and Robert "Bob."
Blessed be her memory!
