Leroy Franklin Lorenzen

LEROY FRANKLIN LORENZEN was born to Frank and Carrie (TenCate) Lorenzen on February 5, 1927 in Woodstock, Minnesota. He was baptized in February, 1927 at the Woodstock Presbyterian Church. When he was nine years old, he moved with his family to Edgerton, Minnesota. He attended school and completed his education through the 10th grade at Edgerton High School. On May 4, 1945, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II in the occupation force of Japan. After his discharge on December 31, 1946, he returned to Edgerton. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota in 1948. On February 20, 1949, he married Lois Ann Kuhlman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they moved to Luverne, Minnesota, and he worked for area farmers. Two years later, they moved to Sherman, South Dakota, and LeRoy worked as a farm laborer there. In 1949, he went into farming on his own on various farms in southwest Minnesota. He later purchased a farm near Jasper, Minnesota. He spent 42 years living and working the land. After retiring in 1991, he enjoyed helping his son with farming. In June of 2018, LeRoy was admitted to the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, Minnesota where he died on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the age of 91 years, seven months and six days.

LeRoy was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota where he served as an Elder and Sunday School superintendent and belonged to the Couples Club. At the time of his death, he was a member at St Paul Lutheran of Pipestone, MN. He was also a member of the Oscar Iverson American Legion Post #133 in Jasper. Some of LeRoy’s favorite pastimes were vacationing in Arizona, hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards. Back home, he loved tending his garden, training horses, doing woodworking projects and spending time with his special dog, Sadie.

He is lovingly remembered by his six children, Marcia Bouwman and her husband Doug of North Port, Florida, Connie Paulson and her husband Dave of Dassel, Minnesota, Debra Shoquist and her husband Neal of Blaine, Minnesota, Luanne Wyssmann and her husband Joe of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, Lowell Lorenzen and his wife Betsy of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Wendy Buschena and her husband Jim of Fulda, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Vernon Lorenzen and his wife Arlou of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, grandchild, Christine Bouwman; his sister, Delores Arp; and his brother, Elmer Lorenzen.
