LOIS EVELYN HOLLING Lois Evelyn Holling was born on October 25, 1926 to Neal and Kiza (Leslie) Taylor in River Falls, Wisconsin. Throughout her childhood her family lived various places. Lois graduated from high school in 1944. She then furthered her education by attending beauty school in Minneapolis. When she was 24, Lois moved to Luverne, Minnesota and began working as a beautician. Several years later she moved to Alaska and worked three years for a children’s home. She then returned to Luverne and purchased the beauty shop where she worked. While living in Luverne, Lois met Bill Holling and the couple was united in marriage on December 29, 1963 at the United Methodist Church in Luverne. They made their home on Bill’s farm south of Hardwick, Minnesota. A short time later, Lois sold her beauty shop and raised their two daughters, Priscilla and Patricia. In 1993, Lois and Bill sold their farm and moved into a home in Hardwick. They later moved to Luverne and resided various places including City Center Apartments, The Oaks, and Poplar Creek. Most recently, Lois was residing at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home. On Saturday, August 13, 2016, while at the Sanford Luverne Hospital, Lois went to be with her Lord at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 19 days.
Lois was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne. During her life, she was very active in her church and taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, was active with the church youth and belonged to Circle and UMW. Most importantly to her church, she was a strong prayer warrior. Lois enjoyed doing puzzles, walking, singing, and reading. She loved flowers, fishing, animals, and playing 500 and pinochle.
Lois is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill of Luverne; two daughters, Priscilla (Randy) Pater of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Patricia (Bryan) Jones of Shenandoah, Iowa; six grandchildren, Alexia (Jason) Katsma, Amber (Andrew) Top, Ann Pater, Avery Pater, Brodie Jones and Magi Jones; sister, Ella Mae (Jack) Woodbury of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and Kiza Taylor; and brother, Charles Taylor.
