LOIS LORRAYNE VANDE KIEFT was born on November 28, 1935 to Daven and Helen (Freeman) Hill near Brookings, South Dakota. She was raised near Egan, South Dakota and attended school through the eighth grade. Following her education she candled eggs at the Flandreau Creamery in Flandreau, South Dakota. Lois then met her future husband, Marinus “Bud” Vande Kieft. Following their marriage the couple first lived in Ihlen, Minnesota. A few years later they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota for a short time. The couple eventually settled in Trosky, Minnesota where they raised their two children. Lois held various jobs, including waitressing, working in dry cleaning and as a laborer for more than twenty-five years at Fey Industries in Edgerton, Minnesota.
In June 1994, Bud preceded Lois in death. She continued living in their home until June 2012, when she moved to the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. On Thursday, March 10, 2016 Lois died there peacefully at the age of 80 years, three months and twelve days.
Through her life, Lois enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and listening and dancing to music. She also enjoyed picking on her husband, Bud.
Lois is survived by her two children, Mark (Darlene) Vande Kieft of Pipestone, and Colleen (Jeff) Gilles of Hager City, Wisconsin; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Furney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and eight siblings.
