Lorna M. Brooks

October 1, 1961 — December 12, 2019

LORNA MARIE BROOKS was born on October 1, 1961 to Charley and Delores (Ponivieskie) Brooks in Luverne, Minnesota. She was raised at her parents’ home in Kanaranzi, Minnesota. Lorna attended the special education program at the Luverne Public Schools and later graduated. She loved all of her teachers and classmates through the years. Through her youth, Lorna also enjoyed playing games with her family, being with her siblings outside in the yard or having fun at the park. She loved animals and especially enjoyed spending time at the neighbor’s house across the street that raised pigs. Upon the completion of her schooling, Lorna went to work at Luverne Community Hospital in the housekeeping department. She moved into the Blue Mound Tower and continued her occupation at the hospital for many years until her health prevented her from working for a short time. Lorna moved to Moorhead, Minnesota for two years and then returned to Luverne. She then went to work at the Rock County Opportunities in Luverne. Lorna enjoyed the projects she worked on and loved her co-workers. In addition to her job at R.C.O., Lorna liked helping her sister, Elissa, with her housecleaning business.

On Thursday, December 12, 2019, Lorna died unexpectedly at the Sanford Luverne Hospital at the age of 58 years, two months and 11 days.

Lorna enjoyed listening to country western music, food and playing games, especially cards. She always greeted people with a welcoming smile and she was incredible with remembering people’s names. She liked being in charge and was never bashful in sharing her opinion. By far, family was most important to Lorna and she loved being able to use her phone to check-in with her siblings and mother.

Lorna is lovingly remembered by her mother, Delores Brooks of Luverne; two siblings, Elissa Brooks of Luverne, and Owen (Vicki Burger) Brooks of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nieces and nephews, Ashley Skatvold, Whitney Brooks, Hunter Brooks, Ryder Brooks and Harper Brooks, all of Sioux Falls; great-nieces and great-nephews, Riley Peltier, Austin Peltier, Ava Skatvold and Lexii Baxter; residents at CLA 12 home and the VA home, in Luverne; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Charley Brooks; and her brothers, Arthur Brooks and Wade Brooks.
