August 14, 1934 — August 5, 2012

LoyDean “Bud” Hamersma…

was born to Tony and Leora (Mohlman) Hamersma on August 14, 1934 in Hawarden, Iowa. He was baptized in August, 1935 in Union County, Iowa. When he was a small child, he moved with his parents to Ruthton, Minnesota where he was raised. He was confirmed in May, 1950 at Aetna Lutheran Church. Upon completion of his education, he returned home and worked hard to help support his widowed mother and his sister. He entered the U.S. Army and served during peace time following the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, he returned to this area and worked as a farm laborer. On December 27, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lorraine DeVore at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Pipestone where LoyDean lived and worked as a farm laborer for Elvin Beyers. After his retirement in 1995, they continued to live on this farm. On August 5, 2012, he died at his home at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Bud enjoyed weekend drives in the country, going to Iowa to attend family picnics, and going to Scott Haarsma’s repair shop for his can of pop in Holland, Minnesota.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorraine Hamersma; three sons, Lloyd Hamersma and his friend Sandy Frank, Dan Hamersma and his wife Diane, and Mark Hamersma and his friend Rose Oligmueller, all of Pipestone, Minnesota; two daughters, Marie Jindra and her husband Kevin of Elk River, Minnesota, and Renee Zellman and her husband LeRoy of Silver Lake, Minnesota; 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Mitchell; and one brother-in-law, Marvin Mains of Gwinn, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene Mains and four aunts, Irene Paul, Helen Jaintgaard, Edna Boyles, and Gladys Sorlye. Blessed be his memory.
