Lucille Ann Bauman was born on August 28, 1926, to Henri "Will" and Anna Stueven on the family farm in Troy Township, Pipestone County, MInnesota. She attended District #10 Country School for five years until moving to a farm in Sweet Township. She attended school in Pipestone school district until graduating in 1944. Lucy was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota.
After graduation Lucy worked at J.W. Hillard Company as a secretary. She met Darrold Bauman and the couple was united in marriage on June 10, 1947, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Together they farmed the Bauman family farm, where they raised four children, Willard, Gaile, Carol, and Kenneth. They became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. In 1968, they moved off the farm and bought a home in Ihlen, Minnesota when Darrold became employed by the Pipestone County Highway Department.
Lucy worked for several boat factories, the largest of which was Bayliner, a subsidiary of U.S. Marine, in Pipestone. She was employed there for 15 years and retired in 1988. After Darrold's retirement, they spent their free time traveling to parts of the U.S., Germany, and Canada. Summers were filled with camping and fishing at Leech Lake and visiting with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lucy loved to read; she was always getting lost in a good book. She also loved to crochet whenever she could. She played in several card clubs and was especially fond of pinochle. Lucy was blessed to be able to remain in her home in Ihlen until recently when she entered the care of the Pipestone County Hospice House. Lucy passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024 with her family at her side. Lucy's kind smile and friendly personality will be missed by those whose lives were touched by knowing her.
Lucy is remembered by her children, Willard "Will" (Susan) Bauman of Madison Lake, Minnesota, Gaile (Gerald "Jerry") Brockberg of Pipestone, Carol Schreurs of Walker, Minnesota, and Kenneth "Ken" (special friend, Deb Guenthner) Bauman of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Amy, Ryan (Kelly), Eric (Kristen), Erin (Kyle), Sarah (Steve), Nick, Brian (Kersten), Nissa (Shawn) and Tyler (Sara); great-grandchildren, Elle, Vivian, Aubrey, Elle, Palmer, Paisley, Kyra, Brock, Lily, Jaeda, Amber, Harper, Sawyer, and Kenley; and her siblings, Esther Veldhuizen of Pipestone, and Orline McFadden of Lake Havasu, Arizona. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Darrold Bauman; parents, Will and Anna Stueven; brothers, Arnold Stueven, Ervin (Lois) Stueven, and Herbert (Ann) Stueven; son-in-law, Jay Schreurs; sister-in-law, Ardyce (Dave) DeWitte; and brothers-in-law, Arnie Veldhuizen, Bill McFadden, Virgil (Margaret "Peg") Bauman, and Garfield (Lorraine) Bauman.
