Lucille Dorothy Ohl was born February 20, 1920 to Carl George and Elizabeth (Oerter) Hansen at Arco, Minnesota. She was baptized and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco. She attended Arco Public Schools, graduating from Arco High School in 1936, after which she took one year of teacher training in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. She taught in rural schools in Lincoln County for four years. On March 28, 1942 Lucille married Henry Ohl at Bethany Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with four children and 47 years of life together. They farmed for 38 years in Coon Creek Township in Lyon County, and in 1980 retired to a home in Tyler, Minnesota. Henry died on August 19, 1989. Lucille continued to live in her home until September 2011 when she moved to Danebod Village in Tyler. On Monday, September 17, 2012 she was transferred to Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. A few hours later Lucille died there at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 28 days.
Lucille was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Tyler where she was active in an afternoon circle, WELCA, and the quilting group. She was a member of Tyler Senior Citizen Center, and a volunteer for Tyler Healthcare Center and the Meals on Wheels program. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, flower gardening, and handwork. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. Her strong faith and love for her Lord was an evident part of her life.
Lucille is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Carolyn (and Doug) Venekamp of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Diane Wartner of Russell, Minnesota, and Cynthia (and Mike) Venekamp of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
