Lucy Mary Persoon was born July 9, 1920 to Peter and Marguerite (Wiering) Persoon in Larchwood, Iowa, the sixth of nine children. As a young child her family moved to a farm near Tyler, Minnesota. She attended country school through the eighth grade. After her education she stayed at home to help with her siblings. After her mother’s death she took over her father’s household, and also helped support the family doing housecleaning for many people, and cleaning at the post office and dental office in Tyler. In 2009 she moved to Southwest Senior Care in Lake Benton, and in January of 2012 became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler. On Tuesday, October 9, 2012 Lucy died at Tyler Healthcare Center at the age of 92 years and 3 months.
Lucy was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. Always willing to help others, Lucy was a hard worker and a great cook. She made the best Lemon Meringue Pie! She loved gardening and throughout her life she had parakeets for her special pets. She was like a grandmother to her nieces and nephews and enjoyed playing cards and her time spent with family.
Lucy is lovingly remembered by her sister, Margret Anderson and her husband Jim of Lake Benton, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Joyce Dass and Gloria Domino; three sisters-in-law, Clara Persoon, Florence Persoon, and Vicky Persoon.; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her six brothers, Peter T., Raymond, John, Nickolas, Andrew, and Cornielius Persoon; and a sister, Mary Bakker.
