Luella T. Overgaard

LUELLA T. OVERGAARD was born January 11, 1921, to John and Annie (Henriksen) Jacobson in Vienna Township, Rock County, Minnesota. She attended country school through the eighth grade. On December 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Overgaard. The couple lived on various farms working the land and raising their family. They first farmed in Beaver Creek from 1947 to 1959, then by Garretson, South Dakota from 1959 to 1966, next near Jasper, Minnesota from 1966 to 1979, and then returned to farm near Beaver Creek from 1979 to 2007. After 59 years of marriage, Lawrence preceded her in death in September of 2007. She continued to reside on the farm before moving to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood, Minnesota to be closer to her family. In 2011, Luella became a resident at Minneota Manor in Minneota, Minnesota where on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 she went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Luella was a previous member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne and Palisade Lutheran Church in rural Garretson. She enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, yard work, animals, sewing, quilting, crocheting, tatting, and going to garage sales. Throughout the years she would sell her handiwork at local consignment shops.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Vierstraete and her husband, Randy of Marshall, MN; six grandchildren, Chad Van Drunen and his wife, Jody of Minneota, MN, Neely Murphy and her husband, John of Hanley Falls, MN, Ara Vance and her husband, Wayne of Hanley Falls, MN, Amber Herigon and her husband, Steve of Cottonwood, MN, Dustin Vierstraete and his wife Sonya, of Marshall, MN, and Jennifer Vierstraete of Marshall, MN; and 13 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; daughter, Shirley Overgaard; an infant son, Arlyn; her parents; and a brother, Loren Jacobson.
