MADALYN ARLENE HUSKA was born to Alfred Frank and Katherina Ida Sophie (Shriver) Cyriacks on December 30, 1926 on a farm in Lake Benton Township of Lincoln County, Minnesota. She was raised on the farm south of Lake Benton where she attended country school in District 10 and then Lake Benton High School. After her graduation, she enrolled in the teacher training program in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. Upon completion of her education, she taught school in District 10 of Lincoln County. On June 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Weldon Huska at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived on the farm in Drammen Township of Lincoln County. Madalyn spent the next years raising their five children and helping on the farm. When they retired from farming in 1991, they moved into Lake Benton. Weldon died on July 25, 2013. Madalyn died peacefully at home nine days later with her family at her side, August 3, 2013, at the age of 86.
Madalyn was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton where she was baptized on April 3, 1927 and confirmed on June 21, 1942. She served the Sunday School as a teacher and Sunday School organist, was a long-time member of the Dorcas Society and the church choir. She was also a member of the Lake Benton Senior Citizens and the Drammen Busy Bees, and she served on the Board of Directors for the Lake Benton Opera House. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and card playing. Some of her favorite times were spent traveling with her husband.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, James (Phyllis) of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, Dale (Marcia) of Yuma, Arizona, Dean (Gayle) of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Colette (George) Fish of Fosston, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Barbara (Rev. Ronald Raddatz) of Shawano, Wisconsin; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Marvin Cyriacks (Stella) of Annandale, Minnesota; four sisters, Evelyn Trautman of Lake Benton, Bernice Trautman of Lake Benton, Marie (Robert) Bushman of Lake Benton, Lorraine (Leo) Brandt of Tyler, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Shirley Cyriacks of Adel, Iowa and Wanda (Bill) Mildice of Logandale, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon; her son, Rev. Craig Huska who died in 1979; her parents, Alfred and Katherina Cyriacks; a brother, Walter Cyriacks; a sister, Doreen Kinner; and an infant brother.
