MADELINE IHLAN was born to Charles and Mathilda (Peterson) Ciesman on May 27, 1921 in Stillwater, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. On June 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to Llewellyn Mark Ihlan at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Stillwater. Following their marriage, they resided in Stillwater until 1945 when they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1964, they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989. After his death, she continued to live in Grand Forks until 1997 when she moved back to Stillwater. In August, 2011, she became a resident at Sunrise at La Costa Assisted Living in Carlsbad, California. She died there on November 28, 2011 at the age of 90 years, six months and one day.
Madeline was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Stillwater, Minnesota where she was baptized and confirmed in 1943. She enjoyed reading, baking, and playing bridge and whist with her card clubs. She loved spending time with her brother and sisters and especially with her children and grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Kathryn Allocco and her husband Dominic of Frankfort, Illinois, Mark Ihlan and his wife Donna of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Barbara Goetz and her husband Dean of Carlsbad, California, Thomas Ihlan and his wife Mary Katherine of Henderson, Nevada, James Ihlan of Denver, Colorado and Mary Anderson and her husband Scott of Valencia, California; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Ciesman of Stillwater, Minnesota; and one brother-in-law, Harold Hawkins of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant daughter, Patricia; an infant son, Joseph; one step-grandchild, Juan Carlos; six sisters,Helen Garavalia, Arlene Dixon, Frances Portz, Dorothy Hawkins, Shirley Register and Emily Radke; three sisters-in-law, Ella Lee Calkins and her husband Alex, Betty Johnson and her husband Donald B., and Macey Luchau and her husband Fred; and five brothers-in-law, Louis Garavalia, Robert Dixon, Lloyd Portz, Dale Register and Lyle Radke.
