Marcella Scott

April 6, 1928 — June 24, 2016

MARCELLA GENIEVA SCOTT was born on April 6, 1928 to Jerry and Hattie (Bendt) Scheerhorn in Pipestone County, Minnesota. She was raised on the farm near Trosky, Minnesota. Marcella was baptized and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Trosky. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then Pipestone High School in Pipestone, Minnesota, graduating in 1945. Following her schooling she worked at a grocery store as a cashier. On August 17, 1947 Marcella married Earl Scott at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Hardwick, Minnesota where they owned and operated the Hardwick Farmers Exchange Elevator. In 1957 they sold the elevator and started a family farming operation. In 1984 the couple purchased a bar named Scotty’s in Luverne, Minnesota, which they owned and operated until selling the business in 1996. Earl preceded her in death on December 3, 2001. Marcella continued to reside at their home in Hardwick. On Friday, June 24, 2016, Marcella died peacefully at the age of 88 years, two months and 18 days.

Marcella was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, where she belonged to LWML. She was a member of the Servicemen's Club and a charter member of the Hardwick Auxiliary. Beginning on their honeymoon, Marcella always enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, flower gardening, watching birds and feeding the neighborhood cats. In 1990, she joined the Travis Tritt fan club following the band’s stop at her bar. She enjoyed branding cattle and was proud of her bull, Super Cella. Following the death of her son, Randy, on August 16, 2003, Marcella kept his spirit living as she would go for motorcycle rides and dress the part.

What will be remembered most about Marcella, was her kindness to others and how she always lived life to the fullest and saw the best in everyone and everything.

She is survived by her daughter, Jerilyn Kille of Brandon, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Jesse Kille (Amanda) of Lead, South Dakota, Jonathan Kille of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, J.R.
