Margaret A. Emery

MARGARET AGNES EMERY was born to Everett and Margaret (Van Klie) Bjerke on March 24, 1938 at the family home near Hadley, Minnesota. In 1948, the family moved to a farm near Lake Wilson, Minnesota. Marge’s schooling began in Chandler, Minnesota. She then attended a country school which consolidated with Edgerton Public School. After her schooling, she worked as a car hop in Slayton, Minnesota. On September 14, 1957 she was united in marriage to Marlen Emery in Jasper, Minnesota. The couple made their home on a small farm near Iona, Minnesota until moving to Kanaranzi, Minnesota where she raised their three children while Marlen drove truck. Marge worked for five years at AR Woods in Luverne, Minnesota until its closing. During this time, she also was a waitress at the Magnolia Steakhouse. Marlen and Marge then ran Hadley Municipal Liquor Store for the next five years. Marlen preceded her in death in 1987. Marge then moved to Woodstock, Minnesota. She worked at meat market in Pipestone, Minnesota for a short time and then spent eight years with the United States Post Office in Woodstock before retiring. Following Marlen’s death, Marge met Delbert “Deb” Feyereisen and the couple enjoyed 20 years of companionship together before he preceded her in death on August 3, 2015. On Monday, December 17, 2018 while at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne, Minnesota, Marge went to be with Jesus at the age of 80 years, eight months and 23 days.

Marge was a former member of the Magnolia Methodist Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed crafting and crocheting afghans (lots of them), watching television and camping.

Marge will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin (Virginia) Emery of Brandon, South Dakota, Leland (Tricia) Emery of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Denny Holtrop of Luverne; grandchildren, Austin (Ashley) Kurtz, Adam (Ashley) Kurtz and Ashlee Kurtz, Kody (Heather) Emery, Jarrad (Kristina) Emery, Justin (Allison) Black and Amanda Black; great-grandchildren, Rilee, Hayden, Kinley, Mati, Serenity and Brady Kurtz, Kayla and Alivia Emery; brother, Harvey Bjerke of Hadley; and other family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlen; daughter, Tami Kurtz; and a special friend, Deb.
