Margaret Ann Robertson was born August 20, 1949, in Akron, Iowa, to William and Ruth (Ashdown) Robertson. She and her big brother John were raised in a close-knit rural community in Hand County, South Dakota, by their mother, Ruth and devoted grandparents, Neil and Marie Robertson, who lived on the neighboring farm. Her father died in a farm accident just after Margaret’s first birthday.
Margaret attended school at the one-room Odessa school through the eighth grade and graduated from Miller High School in 1967. She earned a degree in education from Northern State College.
On May 29, 1970, Margaret married Galen "Rick" Meek. The couple made their home in Pierre, South Dakota, where Margaret taught second grade. In 1977, they relocated to Rapid City, South Dakota, where Margaret became an integral part of Rick's jewelry sales business. They enjoyed traveling and made lasting memories during extended stays in Hawaii and cruises to Alaska, generously sharing many of these adventures with their nieces.
Margaret loved being in the Black Hills and was proud of her home on the hill in the pines overlooking the edge of Rapid City. Favorite memories included visits to Singing Winds cabin in Spearfish Canyon with her grandparents as a young girl, Placerville church camp as a teen and skiing on the slopes at Terry Peak with family. Margaret had a flair for celebrating birthdays and Christmas, always delighting her loved ones with over-the-top gifts that brought joy and laughter.
Following Rick's passing in 2023, Margaret moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to be closer to her family. She suffered a heart attack and died on September 14, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 75 years and 25 days.
Margaret is survived by her brother, John Robertson; and beloved nieces, Molly Robertson Golla (Nate, Jackson & Josephine), Kate Robertson-Bartel (Andy, James & Angus), and Megan Robertson. Her legacy of love and generosity will forever remain in their hearts.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at a later date.
