MARGARET ANNA STEINHOFF was born to George and Sophia (Zambo) Kormendy on June 9, 1924 in Java, South Dakota. As a young woman she moved with her “dear sister” Anne to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she had various jobs as a housekeeper, waitress and cook and loved going to dances. It was at this time she met Elmer Steinhoff and they married on May 5, 1956. They started their first home north of Pipestone where they farmed for five years and were blessed with two children. In 1962, they purchased their farm east of Pipestone where they retired in 1983. Margaret loved gardening, especially flowers, and during the winter months her passions were sewing and embroidering. In 2010, she became a member of the Meadows on Fairview family in Wyoming, Minnesota to be closer to her daughter. Her love of Polka music continued there and working on puzzles and reading were her quiet enjoyment. She passed from her family’s to Jesus’ arms at Ebeneezer Meadows on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 17 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Elmer; her parents; six brothers; eight sisters; and one great-granddaughter, Kia. She is lovingly missed by her children, Janice (Gary) Schulte of Forest Lake, Minnesota, and Gary (Kathy) Steinhoff of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Shawn (Brandon), Greg, Brian, Daniel (Amy); five great-grandchildren; one “dear sister” Anne; many nieces and nephews; and her Meadows family.
