MARIE ELIZABETH GERLOFF was born November 26, 1920 to Henry and Ruth (Gross) Gerloff in their home outside of Little Rock, Iowa. In 1929, the family moved to Luverne Township, rural Rock County. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Marie moved with her sister to Minneapolis in 1946. She found employment at Munsingwear Clothing Company where she first sewed clothing and later worked as a clothing inspector. She worked there for over 40 years, retiring in 1986. Following her retirement she continued to reside in her home in Minneapolis. Throughout her life, Marie enjoyed bird watching, visiting with family and friends, and traveling. She was able to travel more in retirement and enjoyed taking extended vacations to stay with her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jake Van Stelton in Arizona. In 2004, she returned to her roots in Luverne. In January of 2005, she moved to the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne where she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the age of 91 years and 25 days.
Marie is survived by her brother-in-law, Ervin Bergman of Luverne; many nieces and nephews; and other family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth Gerloff; brother, Lawrence and his wife Tina Gerloff; two sisters, Margaret and her husband Jake Van Stelton, and Elsie Bergman; and two nephews, Lloyd Bergman and Leon Bergman.
