Marlene A. Bullerman was born on April 25, 1936 to Russell and Eleanor (Kass) Reese in Ellsworth, Minnesota. She was raised in Nobles County and attended school at St. Adrian Catholic School in Adrian, Minnesota, graduating in 1955. During her school years, she worked in various capacities at Arnold Memorial Hospital in Adrian. On September 3, 1956, Marlene married the love of her life, Landel “Boysie” Bullerman, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. The couple first lived on a farm near Rushmore, Minnesota. In 1963, they moved their young family to the Bullerman family farm, which became their lifelong home. Marlene took pride in having a well-kept farm, beautiful flowers and a perfectly manicured lawn. She was very proud that the farm received the honor of being named a Century Farm. Marlene helped Boysie with many aspects of their farming operation. In addition to farming, the couple did millwork for Steve Neyens and Marlene enjoyed doing framing at the Wood Matt Gallery. Later in life, she worked for ten years in the housekeeping department at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota. Boysie preceded her in death on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Marlene continued to live in their home and kept busy and with all the varied family activities. On Thursday, November 30, 2023, Marlene joined her family in heaven while at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 87 years, seven months and five days.
Marlene was a devoted member of St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian, Minnesota, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed volunteering for the Happy Helpers program and always looked forward to spending time with her friends when attending the Soul Friends group. She also enjoyed doing ceramics, baking bread, making Christmas cookies, taking upholstery classes, vegetable and flower gardening, and doing yardwork – especially mowing. Marlene’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Every year she hosted “Cookie Day” and the kids would decorate hundreds of cookies which they could take home. She made a personalized Christmas ornament every year for every “grand” and “great”. They are treasured keepsakes from Grandma. Following their 25th anniversary, she and Boysie enjoyed traveling. Marlene was very passionate and sometimes a bit strong-willed. She was most proud of her family and loved them dearly. She loved watching them grow through the years and attended as many activities and events as she could.
Marlene is lovingly survived by her five children, Tom (Trisha) Bullerman of Adrian, Bob (Lori) Bullerman of Pipestone, MN, Jayne Kathman (friend, Brett Wittry) of Sioux Falls, SD, Randy (Renee) Bullerman of Adrian, and Lori “Odie” (John) Stoffel of Luverne, MN; daughter-in-law, Toni Bullerman (friend, Keith Matthiesen) of Adrian; 13 grandchildren, Dallas (Heather) Bullerman, Brandi (Marty) Weiss, Jill (Jeremy) Van Ede, Tyler (Hilary) Bullerman, Trent (Christine) Bullerman, Ryan (Brandee) Bullerman, Adam (Teresa) Bullerman, Erik (Andrea) Kathman, JeRae Freiborg (friend, Brenton Johnson), Jodi (Derek) Erlandson, Dawn (Micah) Boomgaarden, Whitney (Eric) Harnack, and Trever (Britton) Stoffel; 31 great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Lowell (Judy) Reese of Northwood, IA, Robert (Mary) Reese of Coeur d’Alene, ID, Barb (Alan) Spartz of Luverne, Dave (Linda) Reese of Adrian, Roger (Frances) Reese of Bridgewater, SD, Alan (Marg) Reese of Rushmore, Connie (Wayne) Bentel of White Water, WI, Sharon Lorang of Minneapolis, and Kathy “Willie” and Doug Berning of Adrian; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
