Marlys Theresa Carrow was born January 4, 1936, to William and Ruella (Alleckson) Gregg in Taunton, Minnesota. As a small child, the family moved to Marshall, Minnesota where she grew up and graduated from Marshall High School with the title of Homecoming Queen.
While living in Marshall, she met Harold Carrow and they were united in marriage on January 9, 1954 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Harold and Marlys began their family in Marshall, Minnesota and had six children and were surrounded by family. In 1973, Harold and Marlys purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Vermillion, South Dakota. In March of 1974, they took on their lifelong legacy of the Carrow Hardware Store in Pipestone, Minnesota. Marlys worked there full-time until 1991. At that time, Marlys enjoyed her retirement spending time in her beloved yard and home, reading, walking, crocheting, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, volunteering at the Pipestone Food Shelf and spending time with her family and friends.
Marlys was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone where she served communion for the homebound as well as St. Leo Funeral Committee. Mom attended adoration every Wednesday at St Leo's Church following Mark's death until her health declined and she could no longer attend.
In August 2022, while walking the monument, she took a fall and entered into the Pipestone County Medical Center. Later that month, she was transferred to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She tested positive for Covid and gained freedom from Alzheimer's and passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the age of 88 years, seven months and 20 days.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Greg (Connie) of Pipestone, Kathy Carrow of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Brian Carrow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Teresa (Tom) Sterrett of Pipestone, and Julie Carrow of Pipestone; nine grandchildren: Laura Wurster, Hollie Pater, Nicholas Ossefoort, Stacy Holmgren, Heather Goddeyne, Heidi Weedman, Meghan Cox, Christopher Carrow, and Matthew Carrow; 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronnie Gregg of Marshall, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; beloved son, Mark; her parents; brothers, Bud, Arlo, Clint, Roger and Wally; and two sisters, Doris Gruhot and Ally Reinhart.
