Martin Boomgaarden was born May 23, 1937 to Jacob and Viola (Arndt) Boomgaarden in Pipestone, Minnesota. He grew up in Holland, Pipestone, and Trosky, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Trosky. Following his education, he helped shear sheep on the farm with his father. He later held various farming jobs and had been employed with Hanson Silo Company. He lived in Pipestone and later became a resident the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. He died there on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013 at the age of 76 years.
Martin enjoyed time spent on the water. He liked boating, fishing, and ice fishing. He also enjoyed puzzles, word finds, and playing bingo.
He is survived by his brothers, Melvin (and Jenelle) Boomgaarden of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Norman Boomgaarden of Hatfield, Minnesota, Kenneth (and Carol) Boomgaarden of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Jimmy (and Linda) Boomgaarden of Chaska, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Viola; and a sister, Madeline Burch.
