Marvin Fick

May 24, 1940 — June 6, 2012

MARVIN HENRY FICK was born on May 24, 1940 to Albert and Anna (Foege) Fick at the hospital in Luverne, Minnesota and was raised on the family farm one mile west of town. He attended District 10 country school through the eighth grade and then furthered his education at Luverne High School, graduating in 1958. Following his schooling he remained helping on the farm while also serving six years with the local U.S. National Guard unit in Luverne.

On April 27, 1963 Marvin was united in marriage to Judith Wendt at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple resided just west of the home place.

Family and farming were two loves in Marvin’s life. Marvin and Judy were blessed with four children, Tom, Paul, Ruth and Mary, and later nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. Marvin was also blessed to serve as a steward of the land for over 49 years of his life. Through those farming years, he remained partial to his John Deere tractors.

Marvin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa and served the church through the years as Elder, President and Vice-President of the congregation. He was active in church in Fellowship Club and sang in the choir. Marvin also served many years on the Rock County Planning and Zoning Board.

On May 8, 2012 Marvin was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He entered the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 31, 2012, and on Wednesday, June 6, Marvin went home to be with his Lord at the age of 72 years and 13 days.

Marvin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy; four children, Tom (Jodi) Fick of Luverne, and their children, Ben and Erin, Paul (Lois) Fick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and their children, Zak, Kelsey and Noah, Ruth (Ron) Immerfall of Little Falls, Minnesota, and their children, Elliot and Mackenzie, and Mackenzie's son, Ethan, and Mary (Nathan) Sandbulte of Sioux Falls, and their children, Andrew, and Tyler; three brothers, Don Fick of Sioux Falls, LeRoy (Verla) Fick of Luverne, and Lowell (Kathy) Fick of Luverne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Anna Fick; and sister-in-law, Hilda Fick.
