Marvin L. Doering

June 24, 1936 — December 11, 2017

MARVIN LEROY DOERING was born in Parkston, South Dakota on June 24, 1936 to Renatus and Johanna (Henke) Doering. He attended school in Parkston, graduating from Parkston Area High School in 1954. In 1955, Marv entered the U. S. Army and served for 16 months in Korea. Upon returning to Parkston he worked in milk processing. On August 27, 1961 Marvin was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene Juhnke, at the United Church of Christ in Parkston. In the fall of 1967 the couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota where he continued in the milk processing business for the next nine years. In September of 1976, Marv began his career with the Luverne Public School system. He worked in maintenance and was the Chief Boiler Engineer for 35 years. With a compassionate smile, Marv walked the hallways of LHS keeping generations of students and faculty warm through our Minnesota winters. He retired from the school in May of 2011. Dar preceded him in death on March 19, 2014. Marv continued to cherish the memory of his beloved Dar and keep her spirit alive in his daily life. A short time later, Marv moved to the Oaks in Luverne. On Monday, December 11, 2017, while at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage, Marv went to be with the Lord at the age of 81 years, five months and 17 days.

Marv was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had served on the Board of Trustees. He also sang in the Chancel Choir and served as head usher for many years. Marv loved the outdoors! He enjoyed following High School Sports and also a great fan of the professional variety; especially the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings. He was a collector of John Deere miniature toys and pictures. Marv loved his Buick cars and traveling with Dar to Branson, Missouri to attend country music shows. They were also regulars at the Luverne Fitness Center.

Marv is survived by his brother, Norman and Imogene Doering of Janesville, Wisconsin; a sister, LaVerna Neugebauer and Vernon of Mitchell, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Marjean and Jim Apland, and Nadine Juhnke; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and special friends, Liz and Breanne Merson and family, Dave and Brenda Knips, Matt Knips, Erica Knips, Brian and Stacey Jans and family, Brad and Megan Stearns, Marv and Bonnie Scherff, Ken and Irene Hirsch, Jerry and Elaine Tiede, and the wonderful people at the Oaks and Poplar Creek senior living facility and the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; parents, Renatus and Johanna Doering; two brothers, Roland and Richard Doering; and nephews, Loren and Bruce Doering.

“God loves you and so do I.”
