Mary Louise Diekmann was born to Joseph and Vivian (Johnson) Ockenfels on June 7, 1942 in Currie, Minnesota where she was raised and went to school. In 1960, she graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic High School. On October, 1960, she was united in marriage to Elmer Diekmann at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie. Following their marriage, they moved to Marshall, Minnesota and then to Pipestone, Minnesota before moving to Loveland, Colorado. While living in Loveland, she worked for JCPenneys. Later they moved back to Pipestone where she again became employed at JCPenneys. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Pipestone Hospital, the American Legion and at Jubas in the Deli/Pizza department. In 2006 she retired. On March 14, 2016, she became a resident at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She died there on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the age of 74 years, eight months and 14 days.
Mary was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. She volunteered at the church before becoming too ill. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bingo, and attending various activities at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. One of her favorite past-times was going to Flandreau, South Dakota for a little gambling.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Randy Diekmann of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lisa (Joel) Grimstad of Simpsonville, South Carolina, John Diekmann of Dallas, Texas, Lesley Schoonhoven (Thomas Moscrop) of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Eric Diekmann (Melissa Guthmiller) of Tomah, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four siblings, Joe (Mari) Ockenfels of Phoenix, Arizona, Joanne (Roy) Hatton of Weston, Wisconsin, Jerry (Maria) Ockenfels of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Gene Ockenfels of Currie, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven; her parents, Joseph and Vivian; and her brother, Michael.
