MARY ELLEN (DAHL) SIEGFRIED was the first child born to Reverend Kenneth and Bernice (Anderson) Franzen on October 12, 1945, while her parents were beginning a new mission in Grand Junction, Colorado. She graduated from Liberal High School in Liberal, Kansas in 1963. During her high school years she played the flute and was the featured baton twirler for the band. Mary Ellen continued this pastime while she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 5, 1965 Mary Ellen was united in marriage to Selmer M. Dahl in Hartington, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters and a son. ‘Sel’ preceded her in death on December 27, 1999. Mary Ellen later was united in marriage to Charles Siegfried on July 27th, 2001 in Jamaica. Charles passed away two short years later on May 7, 2003. Most recently Mary Ellen made her residence in a retirement community, The Villages, Florida where on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 she passed away under Cornerstone Hospice Care at the age of 66 years, nine months and six days.
Mary Ellen was an active parent in the gymnastics field, enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished decorator. Mary Ellen was also a prominent daycare provider and secretary of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Millard, while she resided in Omaha.
Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters, Julianne FitzPatrick and Jacqueline Delts of Omaha, Nebraska; her son, Jonathan (Shanda) Dahl of Hermosa Beach, California; two step sons, Eric Siegfried of Herdon, Virginia and Daniel (Leah) Siegfried of Missoula, Montana; six grandchildren, Brandon and Samantha Delts, Elijah and Emerson Fitzpatrick, and Matthew Ellingwood, and Cora Siegfried; a great-grandchild, Kysen Delts; two brothers, Keith (Carolyn) Franzen of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Larry (LeAnn) Franzen of Sioux City, Iowa; and two sisters, Jan (Steve) Moore of Omaha, Nebraska and Sherry (Ron) Lechner of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Selmer Dahl and Charles Siegfried; and her parents.
