Maryln Mertie Wittrock was born to William and Hazel (Minor) Nihart, along with her twin brother Marlin, on November 1, 1933 in Lake Benton, Minnesota. When she was six years old, her father died and the family moved to Tyler, Minnesota where she attended school. Upon completion of her education, she moved to Pipestone, Minnesota and worked at the ice cream shop and did some general housework for Pipestone residents. On July 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Wittrock at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm owned by the Christensen brothers. While living there, Maryln helped care for the Christensen children along with the housework. In 1955, they moved to an acreage in Altona Township of Pipestone County where they lived for the next 51 years. When their children were in high school, Maryln worked at the sewing factory in Pipestone and then the bakery/deli department at Juba's grocery store until her retirement in 1993. In May, 2006, they moved into Pipestone. LeRoy died on September 8, 2010. After his death, Maryln continued to reside in Pipestone. On September 25, 2013, she entered the Pipestone County Hospice House where she died on Sunday, December 29, 2103 at the age of 80 years.
Maryln was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She was also a member of the Walker Girls (otherwise known as the Golden Girls) with her sisters. She enjoyed listening to country music and doing word finds. She also loved to read a book in the boat while her husband fished.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Diane Heard of Pipestone, Minnesota, Loretta Backlund of Pipestone, Minnesota, Allen Wittrock and his wife Chris of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Keith Wittrock of Pipestone, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Jodi Wittrock of Alexandria, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Marlin Nihart and his wife Ruth of Huron, South Dakota; and one sister, Lucille Strom of Woodstock, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her son, Ronald; two grandsons, Ryan Wittrock and William Heard; her parents, William and Hazel; three sisters, Irene Hind, Hazel Prinsen, and Louise Mortland; and three brothers, True Nihart, Earl Nihart, and Stacy Nihart.
