Mavis Larson

MAVIS DARLENE LARSON was born to Alfred and Clara (Paulson) Aaker on June 3, 1928 at Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She was baptized in July, 1928 at the Oslo Lutheran Church by Rev. Blilie. She was confirmed in May, 1943 at the Flandreau Lutheran Church by Rev. O. G. Salveson. She grew up on a farm in South Dakota and attended eight years at the Quissell Grade School in Moody County, South Dakota. She graduated from Jasper High School in 1946. After graduation, she was employed at Sioux Valley Hospital, Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Home Light and Power. She was united in marriage to Norris Larson on August 15, 1948 at the Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Gisselquist. Four children were born to this union. Mavis and her husband farmed a number of years, then owned the Bowling Lanes in Jasper for 20 years. After selling the Lanes to Barry and Gail Larson, Mavis worked as the secretary at the Barton Perrizo Dental Office for 17 years.

On Saturday, March 22, 2014, Mavis moved to the Sunrise Village Assisted Living in Jasper enjoying many activities and friendships. On Saturday, April 19, 2014, she was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center. She died there on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 18 days.

Mavis was a member of the Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, active in Circle, was Sunshine Chairman and Historian in Ladies Aid, made lefse and all other Norwegian goodies, and sang in the choir. She was also active in the Jasper Legion Auxiliary and served as President and Membership Chairman for many years. She was an avid bowler for over 50 years, and she enjoyed the pinochle marathon.

She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Monica (Robert) Hansen of Madison, Wisconsin, Greg (Jane) Larson of Loretto, Minnesota, Barry (Patti) Larson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Randy Larson of Jasper, Minnesota and Jane of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Tracy (Brian) Willem of Cranford, New Jersey, Ryan Larson of Chicago, Illinois, Jaron Larson of Duluth, Minnesota, Krista (Tom) Flaig of Lanesboro, Minnesota, Danelle Larson of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Peter and Emma Larson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; two step-grandchildren, Paul (Jenna) Hansen of Madison, Wisconsin, and Tina (Chuck Rhykerd) Hansen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one great-grandchild, Benjamin Willem; four step-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Lilah Hansen, and Charlie and Rachel Rhykerd; and her sister-in-law, Pearl Larson of Montevideo, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris; her parents; an infant brother, Virgil; her sister, Vera Houg Busch; her brother, Walter Aaker; her sister, Marlys Braa; and her daughter-in-law, Gail Larson.

Memorials preferred to the Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota.
