He was raised on farms in Rock County, Minnesota near Beaver Creek and then in Mound Township. Maynard received his education in Luverne, graduating from Luverne High School in 1963. Maynard was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. He enjoyed car racing, watching the Minnesota Vikings and his dog, Sheeba. Most of all he enjoyed going to have coffee and an occasional cookie with the guys in the morning and talking about local happenings.
Maynard is lovingly remembered by his two siblings, Jimmie Lafrenz (special friend, Janice Larson) of Beaver Creek, and Wanda Kafka of Luverne; two nieces; two great-nieces; and 8 great-great-nieces and nephews; and other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Etta Lafrenz; and brother-in-law, LaVern Kafka.
