MILDRED ILAINE HAACK was born to John and Marie (Muilenburg) Haack on August 24, 1931, on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa. On September 13, 1931, she was baptized at the First Reformed Church in Melvin, Iowa. She lived in Sanborn, Hartley, May City, and Ocheyedan, Iowa and she attended school in May City and Ocheyedan. In 1948, she moved with her parents to a farm near Lake Benton, Minnesota. Being a true caregiver at heart, most of Mildred’s life was spent taking care of children as a babysitter for several families including the Webers, who would grow to become considered her family as well. She also worked in various homes as hired help. In 1977, Mildred moved with her mother and her brother, Henry to a home in Lake Benton. Then in 2002, she moved to the Valley Manor Apartments in Lake Benton. Mildred became a resident of the Hendricks Community Nursing Home and resided here until her death on Sunday, October 10, 2021. She was 90 years, one month, and 18 days of age.
Mildred became a member of the Lake Benton United Methodist Church in 1949. She was also active in the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, crocheting, playing dominoes, and visiting with her friends. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Jean Lichtsinn (friend, Bruce Kinner) of Lake Benton; brother, Arnold (Betty) of Windom, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry and Raymond (Janet); one sister, Bessie (Harry) Hansen; brothers-in-law, Clarence Lichtsinn and Harry Hansen; three nieces; and four nephews.
