MIRIAM JOYCE HANSEN was born December 7, 1931 to David and Virginia (Clark) Rasmussen in Winnebago, Minnesota. She attended school in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and graduated from high school in 1949. Miriam furthered her education at the Detroit Lakes Business College and graduated in 1950. She then began working as a secretary at the First National Bank of Detroit Lakes. In 1953, Miriam married Robert Ault in Detroit Lakes. The couple had four sons and later divorced. Miriam began working at the Welcome State Bank in Welcome, Minnesota in 1954. Ten years later she became the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Welcome and later was the secretary in the Office of Superintendent of Schools in Round Lake, Minnesota from 1970-1975. Miriam married Donald Hansen on her birthday, December 7, 1974 in Valley Springs, South Dakota. The couple settled in Hardwick, Minnesota and from 1975-1980 Miriam worked in the Luverne Superintendent’s Office. In 1980, the couple moved to Boulder, Colorado and Miriam was employed as an Abstract Coordinator by the Geological Society of America. Miriam officially retired in 1998 and the couple returned to Hardwick. In January 2014, Don and Miriam moved to Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, Minnesota. Don passed away on December 30, 2014. A short time later, Miriam moved to Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn, Minnesota, where on Monday, October 10, 2016 she died peacefully at the age of 84 years, ten months and three days.
Miriam was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Hardwick.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Dan Ault and his friend Cinde Issac of Fairmont, Minnesota, Mark Ault and his friend Lavonne Campbell of Baltic, South Dakota, and David Ault of Mankato, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Clair Ault of Gurnee, Illinois; two step-sons, Dale Hansen and his wife Lorna of Burnsville, Minnesota, Gordon “Sam” Hansen and his wife Joyce of Hardwick; step-daughter-in-law, Alice Hansen of Hardwick; 7 grandchildren, Kris, Brian, Christopher, Heather, Daniel, Sarah, and Nicolle; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; a sister, Patricia Mitchell of Herford, Arizona; and other family. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Dale Ault; step-son, Ronald Hansen; parents David and Virginia Rasmussen; and two siblings, Margaret Richard and Richard Rasmussen.
