Myrna Margaret 'Pete' Carlson...
was born on May 19, 1920 to Gus and Margaret Dorthea (Eggers) Hinz on a farm in Sweet Township of Pipestone County, Minnesota. She was baptized on June 27, 1920 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she was confirmed on May 31, 1936. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in District 24. She completed her education at Pipestone High School. On April 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Alvin Carlson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they lived in Toronto, South Dakota and Trosky, Minnesota while Kenneth worked for the railroad. They then moved to Verdi, Minnesota where he became employed by the school and Pete worked in the school cafeteria. When Kenneth began working for Coca Cola, they lived in Marshall and Madison, Minnesota. In 1953, they moved to Pipestone. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1970. After his death, Pete continued to live in Pipestone where she worked for Pan-O-Gold Bakery, Metz Baking Company, the Pipestone County Veterans Service, and the Pipestone Senior Center where she enjoyed working until she retired from there at the age of 82. She moved into the Nokomis Apartments in 1982 where she resided for 28 years before becoming a resident of Falls Landing Assisted Living in November of 2010. She became a resident at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN August 6, 2012. On August 24, 2012 she went under hospice care and passed away under their care at the Edgebrook Care Center, holding her daughters’ hands on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the age of 92 years, three months and 18 days.
Pete was a longtime member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she was a Sunday School teacher and most recently volunteered with the Quilters Group. She especially enjoyed attending any activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each week she looked forward to her Wednesday afternoon coffee at the Villager with her family and friends.
She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Constance Joy Thomas of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Jeanne Ann Litka and her husband Steven of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her son, David who died in 1961; her son, William who died in 1971; her grandson, David William; parents; one brother, Theodore W. Hinz; two sisters, Vila Ann Bucher and Ione Elizabeth Rae; and her daughter-in-law, Colleen Carlson.
