NELLEEN (MUYSKENS) PALS was born on August 8, 1942 in Alton, Iowa to Dick and Katie (Aalberts) Muyskens. The family moved to Chandler, Minnesota while Nelleen was in her teenage years. Nelleen graduated from Chandler high school in 1960. After her graduation, she attended nursing school in the Twin Cities, receiving her LPN degree. Nelleen returned to the Chandler area and married Harley Pals on December 21, 1964 in Slayton, Minnesota. The couple moved to Edgerton, Minnesota and was blessed with four children. While in Edgerton, Nelleen worked in various places, including the Edgebrook Care Center, Pipestone County Medical Center, the Edgerton Public School, and the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. The couple then moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota and eventually separated. Nelleen continued to work in various capacities that allowed her to help others, especially those in need and the elderly. She officially retired in 2004, but that never stopped her need to help others. She continued to spend time with the elderly and often made meals for those that could not cook for themselves. Nelleen passed away suddenly at the Avera Tyler Hospital in Tyler, Minnesota on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the age of 76 years and 29 days.
As a faithful Christian, Nelleen believed in the power of prayer, leading her family members in prayer whenever one was needed. She spent a great deal of her time tending to the needs of others and caring for those she loved. Thanks to her loving nature, Nelleen made sure that no one ever left her home empty handed. In her spare time, she would watch birds, tend her garden, can the harvests from her garden, and sew for her grandchildren. Nelleen especially enjoyed the time that she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Byron (Lisa) Pals of Pipestone, Kevin (Jody) Pals of Pipestone, Bonita (Dave) Haroldson of Tyler, and Darin (Marcy) Pals of Jasper, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, Cassandra, Taylor, Sawyer, Paige, Aubrey, Ashley, Dustin, Britany, Katelyne, MacKenzie, Tristen, and Nicole; 11 great-grandchildren, Brentley, Addilyn, Meredith, Breeley, Brystol, Bryer, Daxton, Leighton, Azalea, Aurora, and Alliance; her siblings, Chris (Willy) Vander Woude of Menasha, Wisconsin, Rich (Ila) Muyskens of Edgerton, and Corny (Sharon) Muyskens of Chandler; and many other loving friends and family members. Nelleen was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Katie; and one sister, Wilma Karstensen.
