Norma Gertz

Norma Selma Gertz was born on September 28, 1934 to Arne and Hilda (Josal) Hoiland in Luverne, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Norma grew up on the farm near Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1953. Following her education, she was united in marriage to Karen Gertz on July 3, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Luverne. Their union was blessed with 3 children- Bernice, Ileen and Wayne. The couple started their life together in Magnolia and in 1957, they began farming southeast of Luverne in Magnolia Township of Rock County. In 1966, they moved to a farm south of Jasper in Rose Dell Township where she currently resided. Karen died on July 2, 2010, just one day short of their 55th wedding anniversary. Norma continued to live on the farm with a brief stay at the Mary Jane Brown home in Luverne. Norma entered the care of Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, where she died Saturday November 7, 2015 at the age of 81 years.
Norma was a member of Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was active in the life of the congregation serving in the ladies aid and circle. She helped quilt at church and was always willing to contribute and serve where needed or called upon. Norma enjoyed water walking exercises, putting together puzzles, senior citizens activities, gardening, reading, playing cards, and time spent with family.
Norma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bernice Gertz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ileen Gertz of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Wayne (Lori) Gertz of Jasper, Minnesota; a grandson, Gary Gertz of Jasper, Minnesota; and a sister, Florence Helle of Luverne, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arne and Hilda; and her husband, Karen. Blessed and eternal be her memory.
