Norma Jean Slegers

Norma Jean Slegers…

was born on July 14, 1930 to Charles and Nettie (Lockhorst) Miersma in Fountain Prairie Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota. She was baptized that same year at Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland, Minnesota and later made her profession of faith there as well. She lived near the Ruthton, Minnesota area for twenty years. On March 7, 1951, she was united in marriage to Clarence Marvin Slegers at Holland Christian Reformed Church. The couple farmed and raised their family near Tyler. Clarence died May 4, 1975 at which time Norma Jean continued the farming operation. Norma Jean moved to the Tuff Village in Hills, Minnesota in 2011 and in 2013, she became a resident of Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. She died there on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the age of 86 years.

Norma Jean was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church. She was involved in Ladies Aide and taught Sunday School for approximately 60 years. She made sure she made time to pray and read her Bible every day. Norma Jean enjoyed gardening, flowers, embroidering, crocheting, reading and journaling, travelling, baking, and cooking. She especially enjoyed time spent with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Cherlyn (Rob) Brouwer of Luverne, Minnesota, Gaylin Slegers of Tyler, Minnesota, Narla (Dan) Top of Hills, Minnesota, Jake Slegers of Bratislavia, Slovakia; seven grandchildren, Heath (Jessica) Brouwer, Amy (Daryl) Fuerstenberg, Jerrad (Tracee) Brouwer, Joni (Louis) Deelstra, Kamie Slegers, Kerbie (Stefanie) Slegers, Rochelle (Cody) Statema; 22 great-grandchildren, Clay, Brooklyn, Kase, Isabella, and Josie Brouwer, Dean, Sadie, and Luke Fuerstenberg, Grant, Carter, and Madison Brouwer, Oliver, Layla, Emma, and Olivia Deelstra, Malyha, Quinn, and Coleson Slegers, Joshua, Caleb, Acacia, and Elijah Statema; siblings, Harold (JoAnn) Miersma of Kentwood, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, Charles and Nettie; daughter-in-law, Debb Slegers, siblings, Paul Miersma, Eibert Miersma, Harriet Kas, Wilma Jenkins, and Caroline Spronk.
