OLIVE HAWKINSON was born in Rosyth, Scotland on March 19, 1924. She immigrated to New York through Ellis Island with her parents Edith and George Ratcliffe and her brother George when she was 3 years old. She met and married her beloved husband Gordon and they shared a life precious with love for his 65 years. They raised five remarkable children: Joan, Paul, Joe, Faye and Martha. These married and raised children of their own, seventeen grandchildren in all, who have also “branched” out until, all told, the family includes in-laws and great grandchildren sufficient to celebrate over 60 family members. Olive and Gordon lived most of their years in Luverne, Minnesota, where Hawkinson Park continues to bear the family name. In these last years Olive has lived in the care of her family and died peacefully at the age of 90 on July 26th, 2014 in Louisville, Nebraska.
Olive was a faithful servant to her Lord Jesus Christ all of her days—a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. The blessing of knowing and loving her will be carried forward in many hearts and lives. We give thanks to God for the life of Olive Hawkinson.
She is survived by her five children, Joan (Vance) Spencer of Malta, Montana, Paul Hawkinson of Erhard, Minnesota, Joseph (Suzan) Hawkinson of Deerfield, Illinois, Faye Jorgenson of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Martha (Don) Gillespie of Papillion, Nebraska; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon.
