ORIN EDWARD OYE was born July 8, 1931 to Theodore and Laura (Arp) Oye near Hardwick, Minnesota. He was baptized September 6, 1931 and confirmed June 24, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. Orin attended District 31 country school and then began his farming career. He enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1952, and proudly served his country in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in June of 1954. Orin returned to the Hardwick area and continued farming. On September 14, 1956, Orin was united in marriage to Lila Canter at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple raised four daughters and continued to farm. Following retirement in October of 1993, the couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota. On Saturday, July 9, 2011, Orin died peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne at the age of 80 years and one day.
Orin was a life time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick and served as the Men’s Club secretary for many years. He was also a life time member of the Arthur Moeller American Legion Post 478 in Hardwick. For over 30 years, Orin donated his time and energy to the Jasper Elevator Board and the Denver Township Board, serving as Board Supervisor. He also enjoyed a bit of fishing and hunting when he had the chance.
Orin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Lila; their four children, Julie and her husband Dean Johnson of Boise, Idaho, Pam Oye of Fort Collins, Colorado, Karen Young of Tampa, Florida, and Janet Oye of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Bobbi Jo, Austin, Nathaniel, and Jesse; three great-grandchildren, Natasha, Jadyn, and Davon; and one sister, La Vale Flowers of Mankato, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Laura; two brothers, Lloyd and Vincent Oye; and one sister, Evonne Westerbur.
