Paula Jean Jacobson was born on February 12, 1962 in Tyler, Minnesota to Wayne and Annette (Enga) Fehrman. She was raised in Lake Benton, Minnesota where she was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. She attended Lake Benton Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1980. After graduation she attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, majoring in political science with a minor in French. She moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she worked a few jobs before joining Citibank in 1989. In 2000 she went to work in customer service at Capital Cards and as a teacher at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, then took employment at Midland National Life Insurance where she worked 13 years until medical issues forced her retirement. On February 3, 1993 Paula married Phillip Jacobson at his mother's house in Sioux Falls. Their union was blessed with one son, Ian. While in Sioux Falls, Paula attended First Lutheran Church and Celebrate Church. She was first diagnosed with cancer in 1998 and was in remission for seven years until 2005. Paula fought a courageous battle that ended on May 24, 2014 at the Dougherty House Hospice in Sioux Falls at the age of 52 years, 3 months, and 12 days.
Paula enjoyed singing, listening to her son's guitar playing, and her pets. She loved to go shopping, with shoes, purses, and jewelry being a few of her passions. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially her sister, Pam.
Paula is lovingly remembered by her son, Ian of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her parents, Wayne and Annette Fehrman of Lake Benton, Minnesota; her sister, Pam Fehrman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Memorials are preferred to the Sioux Falls Humane Society and Dougherty House Hospice in Paula's name.
